Kenya Association of Manufacturers Chief Executive Phyllis Wakiaga is exiting from the association after nine years of service.
The lobby’s Board Chair Mucai Kunyiha said Wakiaga has left to pursue a new professional challenge in an Africa Advisory role.
She is currently serving her notice and will officially be leaving on June 30.
“Since joining KAM as the Head of Policy, Research, and Advocacy in 2013, and later taking over the leadership mantle in 2015 as CEO from (now CS) Betty Maina, Phyllis has brought a tremendous level of energy, enthusiasm, and industry knowledge to the organization,” Kunyiha said in a statement on Thursday.
“She has implemented many critical changes and instituted deep robust structures towards the transformation of the Association, both internally and externally. Phyllis Wakiaga has also been consistent in ensuring that these values are now enshrined in KAM’s ethos,” Kunyiha added.
“While she will be missed by all of us at the Association, I wish her every success in her next endeavour. I know that she will remain a good partner to KAM, and I am sure she will continue to contribute to our shared vision of improving Kenya’s economic prospects in her new role.”
Wakiaga has a strong track record in Public Policy Formulation, Government Relations, Strategy Execution, Stakeholder Relations, Human Capital Management, Resource Mobilization, Financial Oversight, Corporate Governance, and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG).
She studied law at the University of Nairobi, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Laws, in 2005. Later, the same university awarded her a Master of Laws, majoring in International Trade and Investment Law.
In 2013, she joined the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), as the head of policy in charge of research and advocacy. In 2015, she was appointed as chief executive officer.
Wakiaga is the UN Global Compact Network, Kenya Chapter Board Chair, Kenya Industrial Water Alliance Chair, and a member of the Kenya COVID-19 Fund Board.
She represents KAM in a number of institutions including COMESA Business Council, EAC Manufacturers Network, Anti-Counterfeit Agency, and Anti-Illicit Trade Multi-Agency Forum.
