World marathon champion Ruth Chepngetich will lead Kenya’s marathon team for the 2022 World Championships to be held in Oregon, the USA on July 15-24.

Chepngetich will be joined on the women’s team by Paris Marathon champion Judith Jeptum, Geneva Marathon champion Maureen Chepkemoi and Amsterdam Marathon winner Angela Tanui.

The men’s team has Valencia Marathon champion Lawrence Cherono, three-time World Half Marathon champion Geoffrey Kamworor and Barnabas Kiptum with former world champion Geoffrey Kirui on standby.

Margaret Wangari, Purity Changwony, Stella Barsosio, and Viola Cheptoo highlight Kenya’s team for the Commonwealth Games set for Birmingham, United Kingdom.

The men’s team for the Games consists of; Philemon Kacheran, Eric Kiptanui, Jonathan Korir, and Michael Githae.

All athletes including defending champions must compete in the Trials. Athletes must have attained the entry standards set by World Athletics. Athletes must have met all the antidoping requirements set by AIU as per the attached Athletics Kenya Anti-Doping Obligations in Preparation for World Championships 2022. The first 2 athletes across the line during the trials will automatically be selected, “Athletics Kenya announced.

The eighteenth edition of the World Athletics Championships is scheduled to be held in 2022 in Eugene, Oregon, the United States from July 15–24, 2022.

They were originally scheduled for August 6–15, 2021; on April 8, 2020, World Athletics announced that the event would be postponed by one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting postponement of the 2020 Summer Olympics.
