Kenya Airways on Monday said it would commence daily flight services between Nairobi and London under a route network review program that affects both local and international routes.
“The network review is routine and is informed by the return to air travel as the aviation industry recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, some routes will have frequency increment, frequency reduction, schedule changes, suspension and postponement of route opening,” the airline said in a statement.
Under the program, KQ will increase frequency for the London route throughout winter from planned five times weekly to daily marking the fastest recovery to the pre-COVID-19 schedule.
“Operation day changed for Juba-Khartoum (South Sudan and Sudan) route to cater for Sudan weekends (Fridays and Saturdays) by operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays effective Feb. 20,” the carrier said.
However, the postponement of the Milan and Rome launch previously planned for Jun. 8 attributed to reduced passenger demand.
“We continue to serve Italy through our European destinations: London, Paris, and Amsterdam connecting to our SkyTeam Partner Airlines, ITA (Italia Trasporto Aereo) and Air France-KLM,” the national carrier said.
All flights destined for Yaounde, Cameroon, will also be suspended by May 31.
Locally, KQ reduced frequencies on Nairobi-Kisumu over the low season from 26 times to 17 times weekly from Feb. 15 2022.
Kenya Airways is a member of the Sky Team Alliance flying to 42 destinations worldwide.
