Kenya Open: Scotland’s Ewen Fergurson on Top of the Leaderboard

Scotland’s Ewen Ferguson moved to top of the leader board going into the final round of this year’s Magical Kenya Open

Ewen Ferguson is the new leader at the Kenya Open after a five-under-par 66 on Saturday taking his total to 14 under.

Scotland’s Ewen Ferguson Saturday led Marcus Kinhult (Sweden), Ashun Wu (China), Matti Schmid (Germany) and David Horsey (England) to be part of a five-man leaders group at five-under-par 66 at the Kenyan Open.

However, Shubhankar Sharma maintains a one-shot lead with Ewen Ferguson sitting tied-second.

The world No 317, began the third round with a first hole birdie and a quick eagle at the fourth, in addition to three birdies at the back nine’s 10th, 14th and 18th with the only bogey of the day coming at the sixth hole.

“I made a couple of mistakes which, when you’re playing well, you still come out with par – get up and down from 70-80 yards for pars and that keeps the momentum going,” Ferguson said.

He added, “I think that was the key today, the momentum just kept going, I was holing clutch three or four putts to keep me going and I just played nicely and plodded my way around.”

According to Sharma, “I’m really happy, whenever you finish with two birdies you’re always happy. It was a good round for me today, it was quite a slow start for me starting on the back nine, not much was happening for me, but that eagle on the 18th really propelled me.

“The front nine was great, missed birdie opportunities on both the par-fives, but came back strong on eight and nine with birdies and I’m really pleased with the score.”
