Kenya has lifted an entry ban for passengers arriving from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The temporary entry ban was imposed on January 10. This move was in retaliation to the UAE issuing a ban on all inbound and transit passengers from Kenya in December 2021, citing fake COVID-19 certificates from Kenyan travellers.
However, the ban did not affect cargo flights.
Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) Director-General Gilbert Kibe said the ban was lifted Monday midnight, offering relief to travellers between the two destinations.
“Kenya shall do a NOTAM lifting the suspension of flights to and from UAE from midnight tonight (Monday),’’ said Mr Kibe.
Kenya exported goods worth KSh25.27 billion in the nine months to September 2021 from UAE while imports from the nation stood at KSh122.35 billion in the same period.
On the other hand, the United States of America (USA), raised Kenya’s travel advisory alert from Level One to Level Three, amidst concerns of the increasing COVID-19 infections following the emergence of the Omicron variant.

Monday, Kenya recorded 170 additional Covid-19 positive cases with a positivity rate of 4.7 per cent from a sample size of 3,659 tested within the last 24 hours.
Total confirmed positive cases stand at 320,399 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 3,189,945.
As of January 23rd 2022, a total of 11,553,637 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 6,320,249 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 5,081,189.
Another 36,792 are doses administered to those between 15 to 18 years while 115,407 are booster doses.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 60.7 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 18.6 per cent.
The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
