Kenya has fully vaccinated 17.5 per cent (4,763,682) of its adult population for Covid-19, while 6,198,816 have received at least one dose, the health ministry said on Sunday as per data on January 15th 2022.
“As of January 15th 2022, a total of 11,082,457 vaccines have been administered across the country. Of these, 6,198,816 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 4,763,682,” the ministry said.
“Another 30,245 are doses administered to those between 15 to 18 years while 89,714 are booster doses.”
National Taskforce on Vaccine Deployment chief Willys Akhawale says the ministry targets to vaccinate a targeted population of 27,246,033 by end of the year.
He also says their medium plan targets to fully have vaccinated 70 per cent (19 million) of the country’s adult population between January and the end of June.
“We have laid plans to administer at least 20 million vaccine doses between January and June 2022 to achieve the mid-year targets and has set specific targets for the 47 counties with an objective of ensuring the administration of vaccine doses according to their population proportions,” he said.
At the beginning of the year, the country rolled out the issuance of Covid-19 booster doses to eligible Kenyans who have completed the primary vaccination regime.
By the end of 2021, the country had administered 10.1 million doses of vaccines, with 4.2 million people fully vaccinated and 5.9 million partially vaccinated.
