Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is targeting 4.5 million new voters are targeted in the second and final phase of voter registration from Jan. 17 to Feb. 6.
Wafula Chebukati, the chairman of IEBC, said Kenyans in Diaspora will be eligible to obtain a voter’s card. Voter registration exercise for Kenyans living in the diaspora will commence on Jan. 21 to Feb. 6 at the country’s embassies abroad.
“The registration exercise will be conducted during the official working hours at the Kenyan Embassies, High Commission and Consulates in the respective countries,” he said.
The exercise was previously carried out in Burundi, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa has been expanded to the UK, Canada, the US, South Sudan, Qatar and UAE and Germany.
“The commission will use bio-metric voter registration kits to capture biometric and biographic details and we are challenging those voters who have not been registered to turn up,” Chebukati said.

“The enhanced continuous voter registration exercise phase 2 offers another opportunity for eligible Kenyans to register as voters, transfer polling stations or change their particulars,” Chebukati said during a media briefing in Naivasha, Nakuru city.
In Phase I of the exercise that was conducted from 4th Oct to 5th Nov 2021, the electoral body says 1,519,294 eligible Kenyans were registered as voters.
