World Cup champions France narrowly beat Germany 1-0 in their opening Group F match.
Le Bleus began their quest to become the first side to twice claim a World Cup and European Championships double with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Germany in Munich.
France got their goal through an own-goal by Borussia Dortmund’s Mat Hummels after a sublime cross-field pass found Lucas Hernandez on the left who fizzled a cross into the area which the German bundled into the net.
Both sides pushed for a goal each with France looking brighter and more threatening infront of goal as Germany struggled to create clear-cut chances.
Kylian Mbappé looked lively after the interval and threaded through an inch-perfect pass to Adrien Rabiot, who hit the post from a tight angle with Griezmann much better placed in the middle. Serge Gnabry was then left to rue a golden missed opportunity when his volley skimmed the roof of the net from a Robin Gosens cross.
France had two goals from Mbappe and Karim Benzema ruled out by VAR for offside.
France take on Hungary on Saturday as the Germans will be looking to save their tournament chances when they take on Portugal.
