An own-goal by former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny and a second-half strike by Milan Skriniar give Slovakia a much-deserved win over Poland.
The Polish began the game brightly and dominated the opening minutes of the game with Bundesliga goalscoring record-breaker Robert Lewandowski having two shots blocked.
They continued to knock on Slovakia’s defence but were unable to create and complete any chances.
Slovakia grew into the game and had their efforts rewarded in the 18th minute when Robert Mak went past two Polish defenders before drilling a fierce low show that Wojciech Szczesny parried into his own net to open the scoring.
Poland quickly got back into the game in the second half with a flowing move down the left wing that led to Karol Linetty slotting into the net.
The side was reduced to ten men minutes later when Grzegorz Krychowiak was given marching orders for a second bookable offence.
Slovakia took advantage of the extra man and took the lead again as Milan Skriniar controlled a clearance at the edge of Poland’s area and fired a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
