• Chelsea picked a vital 2-0 first-leg away win against Porto in Seville
  • Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell each scored as the Blues took a major step to qualifying for the Champions League semi-finals

Chelsea look to book place in this year’s Champions League semi-final with a vital 2-0 win over Porto in the first-leg of their quarter-finals.

Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell found the back of the net in either half of the tie to give the Blues the much needed win.

Both teams kicked off the match in high tempo in the opening exchanges, with the visitors enjoying more of the ball as they hunted for an opener.

They had a chance to break the deadlock in the 16th minute through Mount, but Porto gloveman Marchesin was up to the task to fend off the threat.

He, however, was unable to stop the Englishman from breaking the deadlock minutes after the half-hour mark, with the Blues forward swiveling a beautiful effort in one smooth moment to make 1-0 – his first in the tournament.

The tie looked set to end in a slim 1-0 win for the west Londoners, only for Chilwell to double the advantage deep in the second half after a defensive blunder by the Portuguese side.

The win was a much needed response for Thomas Tuchel’s side that lost miserably against West Brom last weekend.

Chelsea will now be looking to get the job done during the second leg which will be played at the same venue on 13th April – but this time, turning up as the hosts.
