Premier League: West Brom put five past Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

• Chelsea went ahead through Christian Pulisic minutes before Thiago Silva was given marching orders for a second bookable offence 
• It was Chelsea Manager Thomas Tuchel first loss as the Blues manager 

West Brom put five goals past 10-man Chelsea to hand Thomas Tuchel his first loss as Chelsea’s Boss. 

The German had overseen a 14-match unbeaten run in all competitions since replacing the sacked Frank Lampard in January.

But that impressive start came to an embarrassing end as West Brom ran riot at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

Christian Pulisic put Chelsea ahead early in the first half. The American was fast to react to a free-kick by Marcos Alonso that rattled the post and fell to the winger to put the ball in the net.

Moments later, Thiago Silva would be given his marching orders for a second bookable offence moments after the hosts had gone ahead.

That proved the turning point as Albion’s Matheus Pereira struck twice in first half stoppage-time to tilt the match for the visitors.

Mbaye Diagne grabbed West Brom’s third goal and Callum Robinson netted twice in second half to seal vital three points for Sam Allardyce’s side.

The Blues, beaten for the first time in 10 league games, remain fourth for now, but both West Ham and Tottenham would go above them if they win on Monday and Sunday respectively.

After conceding just two goals in Tuchel’s reign, with seven consecutive clean-sheets since the defence was last breached at Southampton in February, this was a rude awakening for Chelsea.

West Brom remain second bottom but their first league win at Chelsea since 1978 gives them a glimmer of hope in the fight to avoid relegation.

Sam Allardyce’s team are seven points from safety with eight games left.

Chelsea welcome Porto to the Bridge on Wednesday for their Champions League quarter-final first leg.
