The 2021 MTV Africa Music Awards ceremony has been postponed according to the organisers.

No reasons were disclosed for the annual event that was scheduled for February 20 in Kampala, Uganda

“MTV Base is postponing the 2021 MTV Africa Music Awards. We will keep fans updated as we have more news,” MTV Base Africa said on its official Twitter account.

However, Arinaitwe Rugyendo, a Uganda based journalists said: “The postponement was a decision agreed between the Ministry of Tourism and Viacom(MTV).”

The Kampala edition was set to be the first-ever live-streamed virtual MTV Africa Awards. Grammy Award-winning global sensation, DJ and record executive, DJ Khaled had been announced as the international host for the MTV Africa Music Awards Kampala 2021 (MAMA).

The MTV Africa Music Awards were established in 2008 by MTV Networks Africa to celebrate the most popular contemporary music in Africa.

The awards were first held in 2008, were last held in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2016. The other time the awards were held in East Africa was in 2009 in Nairobi, Kenya.
