Kenya is set to bid hosting World Athletics Championship in 2025.

The East African nation hosted the World Under-18 Championship in 2017 and is hoping to use the success of the tournament to better its chances of hosting the event in 2025.

During the 17th edition of the World Athletics Championships in Qatar, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed announced that the country had submitted a letter of intent to World Athletics (formerly International Association of Athletics Federations – IAAF), signaling its intention to host the senior championship.

While announcing the bid guides for the 2025 World Athletics Championship on Friday, the international governing body for athletics also published bid documents for 2023 World Athletics Road Running Championships and the 2023 World Athletics Relays.

Kenya’s proposal will be boosted after World Athletics president Sebastian Coe promised last year to give an African country a slot at the world event during his tenure in office.

Should Kenya win the prestigious World Athletics Championships hosting rights, the event will boost the local economy, drive sports tourism, and improve the sporting infrastructure.

The three competitions are World Athletics Series events.

Countries have until March 1 to register their interest and hosts will be known in December.
