Robert Lewandowski beat Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to bag the Best FIFA Men’s Player Award.
The Polish lethal forward fended off Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to scoop up the Best FIFA Men’s Player award on Thursday night during a virtual ceremony.
Lewandowski enjoyed a historic treble-winning season with Bayern Munich, winning the Champions League, the Bundesliga and the German Cup in 2020.
And he was duly rewarded with FIFA’s top prize thanks to his incredible form with German giants Bayern as they became Europe’s biggest force last season.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino turned up personally to hand over the award, which recognised achievements between July 2019 and October 2020, to the Poland striker on Thursday evening.
And after he was announced as the best men’s player, Lewandowski said:
‘If you win such an award and share that title with Messi and Ronaldo, that is unbelievable and it means so much to me.
Lewandowski had scored a staggering 55 goals in just 47 matches last season, netting 15 in 10 games as Bayern marched to Champions League glory – his first European Cup, having lost in the final against Munich while playing for Borussia Dortmund in 2013.
Unsurprisingly, the 32-year-old finished top scorer in the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the Champions League last term.
