Premier League: Arsenal beat Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford as Thomas Partey shines

Arsenal beat Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford as Thomas Partey shines.

Sunday’s marquee Premier League tie saw Manchester United and Arsenal face off.

These two outfits have played out countless brilliant matches over the years.

However, at Old Trafford, it has most certainly been United who have dominated. In fact, before the clash on Sunday, Arsenal hadn’t beaten the Red Devils in Manchester in any competition since 2015.

To find the last time the north Londoners got one over on United in an away fixture in the league, meanwhile, you had to go all the way back to 2006.

As such, though both sides headed into the clash in similar form, United were viewed as clear favourites.

But, when all was said and done in Manchester, it was Arsenal who came out on top – putting an end to their awful run away to both the Reds, and the ‘big-six’ clubs.

Sunday’s clash started in fairly sloppy fashion, with neither outfit able to get a grip on proceedings.

Arsenal, to their credit, though, were quite aggressive, and did a solid job of preventing the home side from playing out from the back.

After the break, United switched from a diamond formation to 4-2-3-1 which almost paid off as they began the half dominantly.

However, it was Arsenal who nearly opened the scoring 52 minutes in, when Aubameyang curled his effort just wide.

And this was soon followed by the game’s defining moment. Arsenal were awarded a penalty by Mike Dean, after Pogba chopped down Bellerin in his own box.

Aubameyang, in turn, stepped up to convert the ensuing spot-kick.
