Betting firm Sportpesa has announced its return into the Kenyan market after almost one year.

Making the announcement, Sportpesa CEO Ronald Karuri said that the Kenya Betting firm was back in business.

Sportpesa closed operations last October and sent more than 400 employees home following its shutdown.

Karuri said that the firm will now focus on upholding the highest standards of service and responsible gaming.

In a tweet, the CEO said “SportPesa is back! I’m happy to announce that the SportPesa brand is back under a new BCLB license holder,”

“We are excited to explore a wide range of partnerships in Kenya over the coming weeks and months, which will prioritize the development of sports in communities across our Great Country!” Karauri said.

While shutting down in 2019, the firm said it would resume operations when Kenya puts in place “adequate taxation and non-hostile regulatory environment”.
