Liverpool beat Arsenal 3-1 with Sadio Mane escaping a straight Red Card in the opening minutes.
Liverpool reminded the world of how ruthless they can be in their Anfield fortress with a resounding win over Arsenal.
The Reds controlled and bossed much of the game as they saw off a spirited Arsenal side that continues to make progress under Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners went ahead in the 24th minute when Alexandre Lacazette pounced on a defensive error by Andy Robertson to lob the ball over Alisson Becker and give the visitors the lead.
The lead, however, did not last long as Liverpool raided Arsenal on the left-wing side, Trent-Alexander Arnold combining well with Mohammed Salah, who brushed off Kieran Tierney and sent a shot at Bernd Leno who did well to parry it.
The ball would land at Sadio Mane’s feet who coolly placed it into the empty net.
The Arsenal fans would feel angered as Sadio Mane would not have been on the pitch for an elbow challenge on Kieran Tierney in the third minute of the match. Craig Pawson only showed a yellow card on the Senegalese international.
Andy Robertson would make amends for his mistake when he finished off a cross from Trent to give the Reds the lead.
In the second half, Arsenal had chances to get back into the match when Lacazette beat the offside trap and found himself one-on-one with Alisson. His chip attempt would be pushed away by the Brazilian.
The Frenchman found himself again clear on goal but hit his shot against the frame of the goalkeeper.
Debutant Diogo Jota would seal the win in the 88th minute when he found the net after coming on as a substitute. There was some controversy to the goal as Jota appeared to have controlled the ball with his arm before finding the net.
The result sent Liverpool to second position behind Leicester City as Arsenal dropped to fifth.
The Gunners return to Anfield on Thursday for the Carabao Cup.
