Arsenal promote Mikel Arteta from Head Coach to First Team Manager

Mikel Arteta has been promoted from Head Coach to First Team Manager.

The Spaniard has been promoted after leading the side to two silverware success – the FA Cup against Chelsea and the Community Shield against Liverpool.

Arteta was appointed in December last year, replacing sacked Unai Emery.

The former Arsenal and Everton midfielder endured a relatively impressive charge with the North London side despite finishing eighth in the league.

Arsenal management have now elevated Arteta after seeing him steer the club through what chief executive Vinai Venkatesham described as ‘the toughest nine month period this club has had in its 134-year history.’

Off the field Arteta has also steered Arsenal through the Covid-19 crisis, played a pivotal role in players agreeing to take wage cuts to support the club and also attracting their new signings to the club while persuading Captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to commit his long-term future to the club.

The Gunners begin their league campaign with a trip to London rivals Fulham on Saturday.
