Chelsea set to sign PSG captain Thiago Silva as a free agent

Thiago Silva set to join Chelsea.

The deal to sign the veteran defender is all but done with the veteran Brazilian set to undergo a medical with the London club this week in a big boost to Frank Lampard’s defence.

The Blues have been very close to completing a move for the iconic Brazilian, with both parties in advanced talks over an initial 12-month contract with an option of an additional year.

Silva’s contract expired following Sunday night’s gut-wrenching Champions League final loss to Bayern Munich, meaning he is available on a free transfer.

Frank Lampard is keen to add defensive reinforcements to his squad during the window after his side conceded 79 goals across all competitions last term.

Thiago Silva is set to leave PSG after spending eight years with the French side

And there is a feeling that Silva, despite the fact he turns 36 next month, can improve the club’s backline.

Silva will bring huge experience and confirmed he has intentions to keep playing for three or four more years after he bid an emotional farewell to PSG where he won seven Ligue 1 titles in eight years.

Frank Lampard is keen on bolstering his current squad having sealed deals for Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, Timo Werner from RB Leipzig and is set to complete deals for Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen and Ben Chilwell from Leicester City.
