Jon Jones vacates UFC light-heavyweight title as he considers moving to heavyweight

Jon Jones has announced that he has left the light-heavyweight title.

Jones reported that he was relinquishing the light-heavyweight title and planning to move to the heavyweight division.

Jones has not been in action since February this year when he took on Dominick Reyes at UFC 247.

Jon Jones has announced he is vacating his light-heavyweight title, saying it’s ‘up for grabs’

Jones has been mulling over a move to heavyweight recently and admitted he would be interested in returning at the top division if he could negotiate his salary.

The 33-year old took to his twitter page to make the announcement:

There have been rumours Jones could be next in line for a shot at current champion Stipe Miocic, who he called out on social media last week. He said he would be ‘too strong when the time is right and have way too much energy’.

However, while UFC President Dana White admits the prospect of Jones at heavyweight was ‘interesting’, he insisted Francis Ngannou would get the first opportunity.

‘Francis has been out there destroying everybody, and if you look at how long ago it was that he got that title shot, he’s worked his way back,’

‘It belongs to Francis Ngannou. But yeah, Jon Jones going to heavyweight is very interesting.’
