Kevin De Bruyne crowned Player of the Season

Kevin De Bruyne crowned the 2019/20 Premier League Player of the season.

While Pep Guardiola’s side may still be nursing the wounds of a painful Champions League elimination by French side Lyon, the side’s playmaker was rewarded for a stellar season.

While the side lost out their Premier League title to Liverpool, failed to defend the FA Cup and harrowingly got dumped out of Europe, the Belgian international has been the only cog ticking in the blue half of Manchester.

Liverpool’s captain Jordan Henderson, who won the Football Writers Player of the Season award, had been tipped to grab this award too.

The seven-man list for the award was dominated by Liverpool and had Henderson, Sadio Mane, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy, Danny Ings and Burnley’s goalkeeper Nick Pope.

The numbers, however, rightly put the Belgian ahead of them all.

De Bruyne made 34 Premier League appearances, scored 11 goals, created 20 goals, equalling the record set by Thierry Henry in the 2002-03 season.

Alexander-Arnold, who won the Young Player of the Year award, beat his own assist record for a defender, improved on last season’s tally of 12 with 13 in the 2019-20 campaign.

De Bruyne could win another award on Monday as he has been nominated for the PFA Premier League Fans’ Player of the Year.
