Billy Joe Saunders calls Canelo Alvarez out for a fight in December

Billy Joe Saunders has called out Saul Canelo Alvarez for a fight later this year.

Saunders has called for a fight against the Mexican fighter and has offered to only be paid if he wins.

Saunders was set to fight Canelo back in May but the plans were called off due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Canelo would then propose a new date – September 12, but Saunders rejected the suggestion citing that he was unable to train properly during the lockdown as well as being unwilling to take a pay cut for the behind-closed-doors bout.

Saunders has said that he will fight Canelo later in the year and should be paid only if he wins

Speaking to iFL TV, the British boxer said:

‘Listen, I’ll tell you the best thing for Canelo to do. Wait until December and come to a proper super-middleweight, a proper champion.

‘Wait until December, then let’s go. December, we’re ready, let’s go. Fair, even playing field, no robbery.’

Saunders said he is so confident of beating Canelo that he will happily only be paid for the bout if he wins.

‘I’ll tell you what I’ll do – the money I’ve signed for, keep it. I swear to God, I’ll let you keep it.’

‘If he wants to come to England I’ll let him keep it and I’ll fight him for free. If I beat him, pay me what I’m contracted. If I don’t, don’t pay me. That’s how fair I can be. That’s how confident I am of beating him.’

Canelo has been rumored to be desperate for a fight in the UK with Callum Smith fronted as a possible opponent
