The US Government has issued a Level 3 travel health notice to Kenya citing an increased risk of contracting Covid-19.
“Reconsider travel to Kenya due to COVID-19……The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 3 Travel Health Notice for Kenya due to COVID-19,” the notice dated August 6th, 2020 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reads in part.
“Kenya has lifted stay at home orders, and resumed some transportation options and business operations,” the notice read.
A Level 3 Travel Health Notice is the highest risk level and means avoid all non-essential travel.
CDC says the risk of contracting coronavirus in Kenya is high and has listed the country among 208 others on the Level 3 list.
“Travelers at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19 should consider postponing all travel, including essential travel, to Kenya,” the notice reads.
Other African states on the CDC list include Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Uganda, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
On Sunday, the Ministry of Health registered 1062 COVID-19 recoveries, it’s highest since the first case was reported.
Consequently, 599 more positive cases were reported taking the countrywide tally to 26,436. Two more patients have succumbed to COVID-19 complications bringing the total number of fatalities to 420.
On Saturday, President Uhuru Kenyatta said the country was ready to receive tourists and, encouraged local and foreign travelers to take advantage of the prevailing low rates to visit the country’s tourist sites.
“I want to take this opportunity to encourage every single Kenyan to take advantage and to travel…You can travel, you can move,” the President said.
“And now as you know, we have also opened up our skies and flights are coming. We welcome all those who choose to come,” he added.
