Juventus knocked out of Champions League by Lyon

Italian side knocked out of Champions League.

The Italian champions came into the match carrying a 1-0 deficit after Lucas Tousart gave Lyon a victory at the Groupama Stadium in February.

Having lifted the Italian title last week, Maurizio Sarri’s side fixed their attention to Europe’s most coveted competition.

The champions suffered a shocking 3-1 loss when they hosted AS Roma last Saturday and they needed to step up.

Juventus started the night off horribly in the second leg as Rodrigo Bentacur gave away a penalty after a foul on Houssem Aouar.

Depay stepped up and hit a sublime panenka to score a crucial away goal and double Lyon’s lead in the tie after just 12 minutes.

Ronaldo scored a brace to put Juventus back into contention but they needed a third goal to secure qualification.

The Portuguese superstar wasn’t able to score his hat-trick goal and the Bianconeri shockingly were kicked out of the competition with Lyon advancing to face Manchester City in the quarter-finals.
