Fans urged to stay away from Wembley ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea battle

The two clubs and the FA are calling on fans to stay away from Wembley on Saturday, fearing some could go to celebrate if their team wins the FA Cup.

There have been fears that fans would come out to celebrate their side’s win as it happened when Liverpool lifted the Premier League.

The same was witnessed when crowds thronged Elland Road to celebrate Leeds’ promotion to the Premier League.

They have been liaising with both finalists to send ‘stay at home’ messages to supporters as a reminder. The FA will also issue warnings on their own channels.

Social distancing guidelines remain in place in England, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson having warned that there are signs of a second wave of coronavirus cases in Europe.

Another outbreak could lead to the suspension of sport for a second time. The Premier League’s 2020-21 season is currently scheduled to start on September 12.

The two sides are chasing domestic glory with both managers eager to land silverware in their managerial debuts in the top-flight.

Chelsea finished the season in fourth position to book a place in next season’s Champions League competition.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal ended the season in eighth position after another disappointing season.

Should they win the Cup, the Gunners will march into Europa League.
