James Maddison set to sign 5-year deal to keep him at Leicester amid interest from Manchester United

James Maddison set to extend stay at Leicester City amid interest from United.

The midfielder has been centre of transfer speculation with United keen on landing the creative Englishman.

Maddison is poised to sign a new contract worth £100,000-a-week for another five years at King Power Stadium.

He has been instrumental the Foxes’ push for European competition this season and his late-season surgery coincided with his side’s drop in form and subsequent miss in Champions League football next season.

Manchester United have been courting the midfielder for long with speculation indicating that United was ready to make a mega-money move for him.

An injury and subsequent minor hip surgery saw him miss crunch fixtures as the Foxes pushed for Champions League football that they eventually missed out on despite having hanged on to the top-four spot for the better part of the campaign.

Maddison remains a key part of manager Brendan Rodger’s plans for Leicester with reports indicating that the manager was keen on adding a centre-back as well as sign a wide forward.

Rodgers wants greater goal threat from wide areas, with the Foxes still hugely reliant on the 33-year-old Jamie Vardy – the Premier League’s Golden Boot winner – in attack.
