Mike Tyson confirms that he will step out of retirement to fight Roy Jones Jr.

Iron Mike is set to fight Roy Jones Jr in an eight-round exhibition fight in September.

The ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ has been undergoing rigorous training in recent months and he has been open in his willingness to return to the ring – with a number of possible opponents mooted.

Speculations indicated that he would take on Evander Holyfield in a trilogy bout with Holyfield too been involved in trainings awaiting a return.

Confirmation has now been made that Tyson will take on Roy Jones Jr as the two were filmed signing their contracts with Tyson appearing to be smoking marijuana.

The pair will face each other on September 12 in an eight-round exhibition clash that is being called ‘Frontline Battle’.

Speaking to Sportsmail, CEO of Island Fights Dean Toole said:

‘If someone calls Roy out in his career it’s a done deal, he could be 80-years-old – if someone mentions his name, he’s fighting them.’

Dean, who is also Roy Jones’ business partner, stated that the fight was agreed on two months ago.

‘Roy called me (at) about 11.30 at night about a month and a half, two months ago, and told me he’d got the fight, he was fighting Tyson and he sent me a video of them on Zoom – both signing their contracts.’

Jones Jr ,51, is considered the among the best pound-for-pound boxers in history, holding titles in four different weight classes – middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight – during his career, which ended in February 2018.

Tyson, 54, has not been in ring-action since 2005 when he hanged his gloves after a roller-coaster career.
