Lewis Hamilton sets new track record to claim his 90th career pole position for tomorrow’s race

Lewis Hamilton sets new track record to claim his 90th career pole position for tomorrow’s race.
Lewis Hamilton took the 90th pole position of his career – his second in successive weekends – to set himself up for yet another victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The 35-year-old Briton has already won at the Hungaroring on seven occasions. Should he win here on Sunday, he would equal Michael Schumacher’s record of eight victories at a given track, in the German’s case at Magny-Cours in France.
With Mercedes dominant, Hamilton’s team-mate Valtteri Bottas was second quickest – 0.107sec back.
The Briton’s pole lap record of 1min 13.477sec was set as a little drizzle fell as the day’s action drew to a close.
The Racing Points of Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez were third and fourth quickest – a showing that will only add to the clamour around Renault’s protest against the legality of their cars, believing them to be copies of the Mercedes machines.
The Ferraris of Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc were fifth and sixth best, a second adrift – approximately as distant from the top as was predictable.
Max Verstappen was seventh quickest for Red Bull – a poor day for them. Brit Lando Norris was eighth for McLaren.
