CHAMPIONS OF SPAIN: Real Madrid clinch La Liga title with 2-1 over Villareal

Real Madrid crowned La Liga Champions with win over Villareal.

Madrid clinched a record-extending 34th La Liga title with one game to spare with a win over Villareal.

Madrid’s title win was sealed when Barcelona shocking home loss to ten-man Osasuna at Nou Camp.

Karim Benzema scored twice and moved to within two goals of Lionel Messi as LaLiga’s top scorer.

The opening goal came on 26 minutes and it was made by Modric and brilliantly buried by Benzema.

Casemiro won the ball back in midfield and fed Luka Modric. He played his pass perfectly into the path of the Real Madrid’s top scorer and he put it through the legs of Sergio Asenjo.

It was no more than Real Madrid deserved – they had carried the game to Villarreal who, with Santi Cazorla resting on the bench, had come for the point that would secure them European football.

In the second half, Ramos surged forward and won a penalty. He seemed to have provoked the contact with Chakla but referee Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez did not change his mind after discussions with VAR Ramos tried to roll the spot-kick to Benzema. The Frenchman scored but he had ran into the area before Ramos had taken the kick.

Madrid will play their last game against Leganes on Sunday.
