• Ogutu was recognised for championing gender equality in the energy sector

Kenya’s Ogutu Okudo Founder and CEO of Women in Energy & Extractives Africa  (WIOGEA) is the 2020 recipient of the Emerging Leader Award by Global Energy Show.

The announcement was made at the Global Energy Show Awards that serve to celebrate leaders who drive change and shine a spotlight on excellence.

Ogutu was honoured for being a Focus Area Champion for gender equality in the energy sector, as well as for helping to provide 1 million people in rural communities across Africa and Asia with affordable, sustainable off-grid solutions. 

“This Emerging Leader continues to provide a wealth of experience in delivering the best operational strategies for asset monetization, new market expansion and penetration as well as project management in multiple business domains,” said Global Energy Show.

Expressing her delight on social media, Okudo revealed that she received this year’s Emerging Leader award which acknowledges her for her impact in the oil and energy industry.

“Delighted to receive the Emerging Leader Award at the Global Energy Show,” she says.

She was nominated for the award alongside 3 other contestants selected from different parts of the globe. 

“To be recognized nationally, continentally and now globally for my work in the energy and extractive sectors serves as a constant reminder to myself and anyone else out there; keep believing in your craft, you never know where it will take you,” She stated

Last year, Okudo was featured by Forbes Africa on the 30 under 30 2020 list.

In 2018, she was awarded by Kenya’s head of state as one of the young female Kenyan trailblazers and earned herself a title as the Kenya Upstream Oil and Gas Woman of the Year.

The Global Energy Awards recognize and honour accomplishments of companies, individuals, initiatives, projects and technologies on an international scale and promote advancement within the energy industry.
