Equity Bank has appointed Prof. Isaac Muthure Macharia as the new Group Chairman to replace David Ansel who retired and opted not to be re-elected. 

“I have enjoyed working with the Board and management of the Group and subsidiaries to deliver on the mission and vision of the organization and I am very proud of what we have achieved together,” Ansel told the shareholders at the 16 Annual General Meeting. When he welcomed the incoming Group chair. 

“I am confident that through his (Prof. Isaac Muthure Macharia) able leadership, the Company will scale even higher heights,” said Ansel (below).

Prof. Macharia who has been serving as Non-Executive Vice-chair of Equity Group.

He holds a Master of Medicine, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Nairobi. He is a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA).

He has a depth of experience in the medical field for a period of thirty (30) years in various positions. He is a member of the Advisory Working Group (AWG), Ear and Hearing Care-CBM; he is the Regional Secretary for Africa and Middle East International Federation of Otorihinolaryngological Societies (IFOS).

He is the founder chairman of the Allergy Society of Kenya and also the founder Chairman of the Cochlear Implant Group of Kenya (CIGOK). He is also a member of various professional societies. 

“Under my leadership, I will steer the Group to become a Pan African financial institution…best of its class,” said Prof. Muthure in his acceptance remarks.
