Ilanna Darcy, Safaricom’s Head of Investor Relations, Financial Planning & Analysis, will assume the role of Interim Chief Financial Officer. 

Ms. Ilanna succeeds Sateesh Kamath who was appointed as CFO, Vodafone Business. 

She joined the telco in  2017, According to her LinkedIn profile, she has over 13 years of senior management experience spanning the retail, FMCG and telecommunications sectors covering a wide range of roles from Head of Investors Relations to Chief Financial Officer.

She has experience in change management, financial control, budgeting, analysis, digitization, generating efficiency and cost reduction.

As the Head of Investor Relations, She helped strengthen the telco’s stock attractiveness by overseeing the growth of the company’s share price from Ksh18.57 to the current Ksh28.90.

She helped deliver the Hyperion Project that saw Safaricom move from the manual to a system-generated style of reporting, leading to greater efficiencies.

Ilanna previously worked for Digicel Group in South East Asia as the Chief Financial Officer, in Vanuatu and before that as the Group Finance Manager, Asia Pacific, based in Singapore. 

In addition, she has held positions such as Contract Finance Manager for Unilever Ireland and Financial Controller for Bird Eye in Ireland. 

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said the company hopes to tap into 20 years experience including 13 at senior level spanning over three continents.

“Following my earlier announcement on the appointment of Sateesh Kamath as the chief finance officer, Vodafone Business, I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Ilanna Darcy to the position of chief finance officer in an interim capacity effective July 1, 2020,” Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said in a statement.

“Ilanna has more than 20 year’s experience, 13 at senior level, and has worked across three continents in the retail, FMCG and telecommunications sectors,” Ndegwa said.

She holds a Bachelor of International Commerce with Italian from the University College Dublin and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
