Petrol price in Kenya has started to climb again with the rise in crude oil prices, however, diesel and kerosene prices dropped by KSh3.80 and KSh17.31 respectively.

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) on Sunday said beginning Monday, in Nairobi Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene will retail at Kshs.89.10, Ksh 74.57, and Ksh 62.46 respectively in Nairobi.

In May, motorists parted with KSh83.33 per litre for Super Petrol down from KSh92.87 while diesel will retail at KSh78.37 a decrease from KSh97.56.

“The changes in this month’s prices are as a result of the increase of average landed cost of imported Super Petrol by 31.54 percent from US$ 188.70 per cubic metre in April 2020 to US$ 248.21 per cubic metre in May 2020. 

The average landed cost of imported Diesel decreased by 5.58 percent from US$ 242.13 per cubic metre to US$ 228.62 per cubic metre and Kerosene decreased by 51.84  percent from US$ 262.44 per cubic metre to US$ 126.39 per cubic metre,” EPRA Director-General Pavel Oimeke said in a statement.

The new prices will be in force from 15th June 2020 to 14th July 2020.

The Central Bank of Kenya in its weekly bulletin said international oil prices increased during the week supported by OPEC’s decision to maintain production cuts and the continued optimism about a recovery in global demand. Murban oil price increased to USD 41.25 per barrel on June 11 from USD 39.14 per barrel on June 4.
