Barcelona put FOUR past Mallorca as Suarez and Messi make return

Barcelona return to action with an emphatic win over struggling Mallorca.

The Catalans returned to action after a three month hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic with an emphatic win over relegation threatened Mallorca.

Barcelona’s talisman Lionel Messi scored once and created two assists in a fairly one-sided match.

Arturo Vidal opened the scoring in the second minute and the league leaders showed no signs of relenting their pursuit of a third consecutive league title.

The Chilean met a cross from Jordi Alba glancing a header past Mallorca’s shot-stopper Manolo Reina.

Danish forward Martin Braithwaite scored his first goal for Barcelona, hitting the roof from a headed assist from Messi.

The Danish had a chance to grab a brace but his shot from another Messi assist was pushed just wide by Reina.

Luis Suarez was introduced in the 57th minute, coming in for Antoine Griezmann. The Uruguayan made his return five months after a knee injury had ruled him out of season.

Messi provided his second assist of the game with ten minute left in the game when he played through Jordi Alba who evaded the off-side trap to slot past Reina.

The Argentine scored his 20th league goal of the season linking with Suarez in the stoppage minutes of the game.

Messi completed the rout with a goal late in the match from a pass from Suarez
