A busy weekend in Bundesliga awaits with Bayern Munich looking to seal the title this weekend.
As the rest of Europe gears up to return to action, German league is heading to its fourth week.
Bayern Munich looks to seal its eighth consecutive Bundesliga crown with a win over Borussia Monchengladbach if rivals Dortmund lose.
Kai Havertz will be looking to impress those monitoring him from England when he returns to action against Schalke on Sunday.
Bayern and the quest to another title
Bayern Munich overturned a shaky start to the season and change of management to now lead the table 10 points clear of rivals Dortmund with just three matches remaining.
They will miss Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller who are both suspended and Serge Gnabry who injured his back and arm in training, the Bavarians will have their work cut out when they host fourth-placed Monchengladbach who are chasing a Champions League spot.
Dortmund visit Fortuna Dusseldorf
Dortmund began the season brightly with their frontline sweeping teams aside through the brilliance of Jadon Sancho and Co.
Many thought that this was the season for BVB. Unfortunately it appears not so – they trail Bayern by 10 points with 3 games left.
Fortuna Dusseldorf have lost just one since the restart – and that was to Bayern – but have also dropped a number of crucial points as they bid to escape the relegation spots.
Chelsea-bound Werner visits Hoffenheim
RB Leipzig created some excitement as the season rolled with those watching looking to a chilling finale – this has not been so with Julian Nagelsmann’s side providing hot and cold performances since the restart.
Last weekend’s draw at home to bottom side Paderborn spoke of it all. Leading 1-0 and comfortable, Arsenal-target Dayot Upamecano was handed a second yellow for daftly booting the ball away and Paderborn ended up scoring a stoppage time equaliser.
Timo Werner will be looking to add to his 25 league goals when they visit Hoffenheim who sacked manager Alfred Schreuder after last week’s Dusseldorf draw.
Kai Havertz back for visit to Schalke
While transfer speculation continues on Kai Havertz’s future, the wonderkid will be back in action for his team’s visit to Schalke.
Havertz missed Leverkusen’s home defeat to Bayern last weekend and their midweek Cup win over fourth-tier Saarbrucken because of a muscle injury.
Havertz has 15 goals and eight assists in all competitions this season with five of the goals coming since the league’s restart in May.
Relegation battle
Bottom placed Paderborn will be relegated if they lose at home to second-bottom Werder Bremen and Fortuna Dusseldorf upset expectations to beat Dortmund.
Sitting 11 points from safety, Paderborn look doomed anyway but the match is huge for Bremen, who need to make up six points to pull off a miracle escape.
Mainz lie above the drop zone with 31 points, with Union Berlin and Augsburg both on 32 points.
Mainz hosts Augsburg on Sunday in a do-or-die match. Mainz will be bolstered by their 2-0 derby win over Frankfurt last time out, while Augsburg were held to a 1-1 draw by Cologne.
