Sarova Hotels and Resort, one of the largest hospitality brands in East Africa, says it will stop the management of Sarova Taita Hills and Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodges effective July 1, 2020.

Both are located within Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary.

“As such from that date, we will no longer be operated under the Sarova Hotels portfolio,” managing director Jimi Kariuki said in a statement released on Wednesday.

This comes after 13 years of operating the two.

Kariuki said all contractual obligations and commitments made by Sarova Hotels in relation to the two lodges up to June 30 will be fully honoured and they will ensure a seamless transition.

Sarova Taita Hills Game Lodge is located at the main entrance to the Taita Hills Sanctuary in South Eastern Kenya, 400 km from Nairobi and 200 km from Mombasa.

The lodge comprises of stone building of 60 spacious rooms and two suites, all with their own private viewing balcony.

Sarova Taita Hills Game Lodge has a museum that displays some of the World War 1 memorabilia as part of the rich history of Taita Taveta County.

On the other hand, Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge has been one of Kenya’s flagship lodges, famed for being among the World’s Most Photographed Lodges overlooking a waterhole and the vast Tsavo plains.

In March this year, the hotel chain also suspended operations in four of its local hotels and lodges indefinitely. The four; Sarova Woodlands in Nakuru, Sarova Lion Hill at the Lake Nakuru National Park, Sarova Mara Game Camp and Sarova Taita Hills Game Lodge were closed as a result of reduced demand for hotel accommodation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In November 2019, Sarova Hotels and Resorts ceased the management of the Spirit of the Masai Mara.
