E-commerce platform Jumia Kenya and Twiga Foods have partnered to bring fresh produce straight from Kenyan farmers to Nairobi households.

“The service will save customers up to 50 per cent on fruit and vegetable bundles and includes free same-day home delivery in Nairobi,” said Jumia Kenya’s Chief Executive Officer Sam Chappatte.

The bundle will consist of items like watermelon, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, bananas, maize meal and processed milk.

The cost range is between Ksh 1,230 and KSh3,180.

Twiga Foods leverages on its technology to aggregate the requirements of the informal retailers through its e-commerce platform and leveraging this to efficiently source produce directly from farmers and food manufacturers.

“This partnership with Jumia allows us to scale up in terms of products, retailers and cities served through this platform as we continue executing our mission to feed and supply Africa’s urban population with traceable, quality and affordable products,” said Twiga Foods Chief Executive Officer Peter Njonjo.

Twiga currently works with 17,000 farmers, and 2,500 retailers daily.
