Kenya’s Ministry of Health confirmed Sunday that two more people have now died from coronavirus in the country.

The nation’s official death toll currently stands at 14, with positive cases rising to 270 with 8 new virus cases being confirmed.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary, Dr Mercy Mwangangi said the cases were confirmed from 1,330 samples that were tested.

“Three emanated from our quarantine centres and five were picked by our surveillance teams from various parts of the country,” said Dr Mwangangi.

“44 per cent of all the cases are locally transmitted. We no longer have imported cases and are now worried about local transmission,” Dr Mwangangi.

Four of the patients are from Mombasa, three Nairobi and one from Kajiado.

Dr Mercy Mwangangi said the eight new patients are aged between 17 and 65.

“On the positive side, the daily hit ratio (positive samples) fell to an all-time low of 0.6% as the highest number of samples ever tested were achieved (1,330). Active cases fell to 189 from 190.”

The Ministry of Health has monitored 2,661 cases, released 47 recoveries and following up on 614 cases.
