Bundesliga may take a while longer to resume

  • The German League was set to resume in May
  • Games were set to be played behind closed doors

The likelihood of Bundesliga resuming in May appears less likely after a ban on large-scale public events was extended until August 31.

Speaking to the press last week, Bundesliga Chief Christian Seifert revealed a plan to have the games resumed in May and played behind closed doors in the top two divisions.

Bundesliga CEO Seifert revealed last week that the games are set to resume in May but this may not happen

However, the resumption of the games appears unlikely as this was not mentioned when German Chancellor Angela Merkel met with regional state premiers on Wednesday.

Whether the Bundesliga can resume will now not be until at least when the next round of government talks take place on April 30.

‘The Bundesliga was not a topic of discussion today,’ Bavarian minister president Markus Soder said.

The ban on large-scale public events in Germany was extended until August 31 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement, German leaders said:

Big events play a large role in the infection dynamic, and will therefore remain forbidden until August 31.
