The Premier League has agreed to find a means of resuming the 2019/20 season today.

Suspension of the Season

The Premier League Board had initially suspended the games until April 4 amid the coronavirus pandemic that has severely affected various sporting events around the world.

A clash between Manchester City and Arsenal on Wednesday 11th was called off over fears of the virus. On Friday 13th, the Premier League decided to postpone all fixtures after Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta and Chelsea teenage sensation Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive of the virus.

FA statement

An FA statement read: ‘The FA, Premier League, EFL and women’s professional game, together with the PFA and LMA, understand we are in unprecedented times and our thoughts are with everyone affected by COVID-19.

‘We are united in our commitment to finding ways of resuming the 2019/20 football season and ensuring all domestic and European club league and cup matches are played as soon as it is safe and possible to do so.

We’ve collectively supported UEFA in postponing EURO 2020 to create space in the calendar to ensure domestic and European club league and cup matches have an increased opportunity to be played and, in doing so, maintain the integrity of each competition.

What this means

The statement clears the rumors and speculations that had been going round that the ‘postponement of the Premier League’ would lead to the 2019/20 season being declared null and void.

This further indicates that the previous date set (April 4) is no longer much viable and the Premier League will be looking to have the games resumed at the earliest date of April 30.

This gives the league ample time to plan season 2020/21 especially now that the Euro 2020 has been postponed to 2021.
