Daniel Moi: Kenyan Sports Fraternity Mourns

The Kenyan sports fraternity on Tuesday, February 3 was thrown into mourning following the death of former president Daniel Toroitich arap Moi.

The former long-serving head of state died at a Nairobi hospital after years of battling illness.

He was 96, according to his family and records.

Moi, during his time, was a sports fanatic who was instrumental in the development of different sporting activities and was an ardent supporter of the national football team, Harambee Stars.

Moi never missed to attend and show his support to the Harambee Stars team whenever a match was held in the country.

“Mzee Moi was an ardent supporter of Harambee stars and never missed a match, we celebrate you life Mzee (sic),” Harambee Stars said in a brief statement on Twitter.

Premiership side Wazito FC also send a message of condolences to the family, friends and the entire football family following Moi’s demise.

“We join other Kenyans in mourning our former president Daniel Moi. May his soul rest in eternal peace #RipMoi,” tweeted the club.

Premier League heavyweights AFC Leopards were also not left out as they also joined the rest of the sporting fraternity and Kenyans in mourning.

“Rest in Peace,” the club tweeted with accompanying photos of the late president sharing a moment with players.

Tusker FC has also mourned the death of the head of state with a message of condolences on its Twitter page.

“We join the rest of the country in mourning the death of the former president of the Republic Of Kenya, Mzee Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi. Our sincere condolences to the family” posted the club.
