The Port of Mombasa handled a total of 1.4 million TEUs (Total Equivalent Units) in 2019 compared to the 1.304 million achieved last year up by 3.7 percent in its throughput.
Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director Daniel Manduku attributed the performance to improved managerial systems, dedicated workers and good relations with stakeholders.
“The attainment of 1.4 million TEUs represents a growth of 7.3 percent over last year’s 1.304 million TEUs, an increase of 97,000 TEUs,” said Dr. Manduku.
“From January to November 2019, the port handled 31.479 million tonnes of cargo compared to 28.550 million tonnes handled over the same period in 2018,” he said.
KPA surpassed its Containerized Cargo targets of 1.35 Million TEUs to record a whopping 1.4 Million TEUs 72 hours before end of 2019.
