The 72-hole stroke play competition will be a significant milestone in the history of the sport in Kenya.

The Kenya Ladies Open Golf tournament which begun on Thursday has attracted 108 players from Europe, Asia, America, and Africa.

The tournament is part of the Ladies European Tour and is organized by U.COM Event and the four-day 72-hole golf event runs up to 8th December 2019 at the Vipingo Ridge Baobab Course, Kilifi County.

Kenya is represented by its champions Naomi Wafula, Bhavi Shah, Agnes Nyakio, Mercy Nyanchama, and Margaret Njoki. Africa as a whole has 11 players. 

African players in the tournament include Nigeria’s Georgia Iziemgbe Oboh, eSwatini player Nobuhle Dlamini, Stacy Lee Bregman and Lejan Lewthwaite from South Africa, Maha Haddioui from Morocco, and Lakareber Abe of Uganda.

Meghan Maclaren, 25, from England, who has won two Ladies European Tour titles and is currently ranked fifth on the tour’s Order of Merit leads in the tournament. She turned Pro in 2016, she gained her Ladies European Tour card in 2017 and finished 22nd in the Order of Merit last year.

Vipingo Chairman, Alastair Cavenagh in an interview with GameYetu said, “This will be the last event on the 2019 LET calendar and it is here that the very best of this season will be crowned. The Pro-Am started December 4th and the official tournament will be from December 5th to 8th. We are delighted to have a total of 108 players from 28 different countries enter the event.”
