Austria’s Kris Rosenberger took the overall lead on Sunday in his Tuthill Porsche at the Safaricom East African Safari Classic rally.
“It was a fantastic day, the only major issue was the wiper fell off and Nikki had to get out several times to wipe windscreen. Niki also did a good job reading the notes it was the best day in the office so far,” he said.
Kenya’s Onkar Rai took the second place in his Porsche 911.
“The second stage was difficult a lot of problems but happy to be here after this long stage here puncture fuel pump failed. Sitting behind a lot of dust. The pump failed in the second stage. It gave up in the second stage and lost a lot of time in that stage,” said Rai.
Former Classic and WRC winner Swedish Stig Blomqvist came in third.
Baldev Chager who had won the previous five stages in day two failed to compete after his Porsche broke down following a gearbox problem.
Kenya’s Ian Duncan in a Rover Vitesse said: “It was a little harder on the hills. The mechanics worked all night and it was really good of them otherwise it would have been a different story. We are not feeling any pressure just running our race,” said Duncan.
The event organisers canceled day three races due to bad weather “Day Three action has been cancelled after majority of the crews agreed. This was due to adverse weather conditions that made stages unsafe,” read a bulletin from event organisers.
Drivers started off with Cs4 at Voi going towards Ndi to Shelembwa, crossed the border into Tanzania and proceeded to Cs5 from Sanya Juu to Ol Donyo Longido. Cs6 started from Longido and finishing off at Mondoli.
The event is now at the halfway stage having covered 1,656km of competitive racing.
