Sofapaka FC has parted ways with its Portuguese coach Divaldo Alves following a string of poor performance in the Kenya Premier League (KPL).

Alves landed the job to lead the 2008 league champions with a hope to turn around its fortunes but it has all but remained elusive for the tactician.

Under his tenure the champions have only won two games, drawn two and lost four, something which did not go down well with the club management and the fans.

On Saturday, club president revealed the tactician is no longer part of the team ahead of Sunday’s game against Wazito FC.

“Sofapaka have parted ways with Alves, he is no longer our coach,” Kalekwa was quoted as having said.

“Actually he presented his resignation letter and we accepted. Maybe he was under pressure or maybe he realized the task in front of him is big. Whichever the reason, he is no longer our head coach,” he added.

Kalekwa has gone ahead to appoint a new coach who will lead the 2009 league champions.

“Baraza (John) now takes over officially as the head coach; we have faith in him and I am sure he will deliver.”

Sofapaka are currently placed 12th on the log with just eight points from as many games while Wazito, a new entrant to the league, sits at position 11 with 10 points.
