Truecaller is focusing on building more partnerships with the local community through its developer program

Swedish Mobile App Truecaller on Tuesday launched its developer programme and mobile identity solution – Truecaller SDK – in Kenya.

Director and Head of Global Developer & Startup Relations at Truecaller, Priyam Bose, said the Truecaller SDK will help third party startups and developers to grow their products and apps in the ecosystem by leveraging on the platform.

He said app developers, digital businesses and startups will be able to verify end users quickly by utilizing their Truecaller profile with a one-touch and password free experience.

Zakaria Hersi, Director of Partnerships, Africa at Truecaller said they 8 million Kenyans using the app with 1.5 million being active on a daily basis. 

“Kenya is our fourth-largest market in Sub-Saharan Africa,” said Zakaria adding that out of which through the app, they have been able to block and filter 8.2 million calls per month an 86% increase from 2018. They have also been able to do the same with 17 million spammers (25% increase).

Since launching its Premium services in 2018, the app is now the second-highest-grossing app in Kenya.

“With this phenomenal growth that we are seeing, we want to increase our footprint and expand our local team here in Kenya to cater to this growth. Moving forward our ambition is to engage more deeply with the local startup community to help them grow their products by leveraging the Truecaller platform,” said Zakaria

Truecaller SDK enables 3rd party app developers, digital businesses and start-ups to verify end users quickly and frictionlessly by utilizing their Truecaller profile with a one-touch and password free experience. 

Truecaller Priority ensures that users will always know when it’s a relevant and important call made from a company – and not a spam call. This will provide an enhanced delivery experience by giving Truecaller users more context to calls.

The Truecaller SDK is available on Android, iOS and web platforms and can be used by any app or a website to instantly onboard, autofill user information, or verify the user’s phone number based identity through the users’ consent.
