Kenya’s fastest-growing low-cost carrier, Silverstone Air Services, completed its maiden flight to Kabunde Airstrip, Homa Bay town from its Wilson Airport hub, Nairobi.

The journey from Wilson Airport to Kabunde airstrip took 35 minutes flight with those on the inaugural flight parting with an introductory fare of KSh6,500 for a one-way trip.

Silverstone’s Chief Operating Officer David Ojwang and the Sales and Marketing Manager Patrick Okech said the airline will offer daily morning flights.

 “We are also contemplating on introducing afternoon flights should demand for our services increase,” Ojwang said.

The daily flights will leave Wilson Airport in Nairobi at 0730hrs to arrive in Homa Bay 0815hrs. It will then leave Kabunde Airstrip in Homa Bay at 0840hrs to arrive in Nairobi at 0925hrs.

The airline has deployed its Dash 8-100with a capacity of 37 passengers. Other airlines that operate on the route but on select days include Fly 540 and Blue Sky Aviation.

The Kabunde airstrip was modernized in 2015 by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) and received its first commercial flight on January 2016. Homa Bay has many tourist attraction sites like Ruma National Park, Lake Simbi Nyaima.
