The Kenyatta National Hospital(KNH), Kenya’s biggest referral health facility, is planning to build Ksh. 230million hostel for cancer patients funded by the public.
“Completion of cancer treatment is considered a key measurement in improving health outcomes in cancer treatment as well as improve compliance with treatment, especially for radiotherapy and chemotherapy,” said the Hospital through its Twitter feed.
“KNH is calling upon all people of goodwill to own and support this project by contributing via MPESA Paybill No- 474444, KNH Hope Hostel. A little will go a long way. Let us come together and Give hope home in Kenya,” read the tweet.

According to KNH, the project follows a survey conducted in 2016 with 460 patients receiving cancer treatment whose findings revealed that 30% of 460 had either missed the treatment or experienced delayed service due to lack of accommodations upon arrival in Nairobi.
Upon completion, the facility that is to be called the ‘Hope Hostel’ will offer temporary accommodation to 140 cancer patients undergoing treatment at KNH.
It is to have three floors and host among other things, a day respite area, a cancer resource center, a restaurant and other support services.
