Kenya Airways (KQ) Managing Director and Chief Executive Sebastian Mikosz will be leaving the airline by end of the year.

“I have made the decision to shorten my contract term and I have decided to resign on personal grounds effective Dec. 31,” Sebastian Mikosz said in a memo.

Kenya Airways (KQ) reported a Ksh 7.6 billion pretax loss in its 2018 financial year performance from Ksh 6.4Bn in FY17 due to a surge in operating costs.

Mikosz was appointed in June 2017 taking over from Mbuvi Ngunze who had been at the airline’s helm for two years and five years.

Michael Joseph, Kenya Airways Chairman said Mikosz “Has been the driving force behind the launch of the New York flights, new catering, and uniforms (to be launched), a greater emphasis on accurate and timely information, new destinations and a proposed fleet renewal program, amongst many other initiatives.”

Sebastian Mikosz has over 20 years of professional experience in executive management both in the private and public sector. He has also held various non-executive roles as Supervisory Board member.

He has been CEO of eSky.pl, the leading Central European Online Travel Agent, President and Chief Executive Officer of LOT Polish Airlines, one of the oldest airlines in the world – a position he held twice including an in-depth turnaround of the company leading to it first positive results in many years.

He has also held the position of Director of Deloitte Business Consulting Warsaw Office and Vice-President of the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency (PAIiIZ) a governmental agency responsible for attracting foreign investors to Poland.

Sebastian started his career in 1997 with Arthur Andersen office in Paris and later became the Managing Director of the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Poland (CCIFP).

On the other hand, Michael Joseph and Dr. Kamau Thugge will next month seek the approval from shareholders of Kenya Airways PLC  (KQ) to continue serving as board chairman and Non-Executive Director respectively.
