The Kenya Meteorological Department has said the country has been spared from being hit by cyclone Kenneth. However, parts of Kenya will experience enhanced rainfall as a result.
“…but the cyclone will not hit Mombasa,” said the Department on Twitter in response to Harun Mwadena Muyesi who had inquired.

On Thursday, the met department had also said that “It is false that cyclone Kenneth will hit the Kenyan Coast. By the laws of physics, cyclones cannot come this close to the equator. Landfall will be northern Mozambique as shown in the satellite image.”
According to Reuters, three people have fallen victims of the Cyclone Kenneth as it swept towards flood-battered Mozambique and southern Tanzania.
Kenneth may bring winds of up to 200 kph and torrential rain to Mozambique, Tanzania and Comoros, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction said on Twitter on Thursday.
In Kenya, the current rain being witnessed is projected to end in May. “The seasonal rains being experienced in most parts of the country are likely to end in the 2nd and 3rd week of May. However, the western and Coastal strip is expected to receive rainfall extending in the month of June,” said Stella Aura, Director of Kenya Meteorological Department.
